Señor Rico dessert company started in the great imagination of Mr. Hector Ramirez back in 1989. He had this crazy idea to bake small individual home-style flans and sell them to as many markets and restaurants as possible. Of course, he was limited by only having his pick-up truck, his wife Rosa, and two young sons Hector Jr and Mario to help him.

The story begins once upon a time after Mr. Ramirez sold one of his many successful businesses. Anxious to get started working on another project, Hector did some research on what he can introduce to the market that would sell and have little to no competition. Well, he came up with many different ideas, but the one he liked best was the idea of producing a ready to eat home-style flan, just like his mom use to prepare for him as he was growing up, that anyone can enjoy instantly. The only flan on the market at the time was a powder base flan, which one would have to take home and follow instructions in order to be able to get a mouthful of this very popular dessert enjoyed by so many different cultures around the world. Many of hectors friends and family thought he was a little coo-coo for starting a business from scratch, especially in the riper years of his life, but he had a vision and he wasn’t going to allow anyone to get in his way.

The next phase began by interviewing his mom, and his aunts, uncles, cousins, friends; etc etc trying to gather as many different home-made flan recipes as he could in order to have daily taste tests in his own kitchen. He had great test subjects that happily volunteered; his two sons and all their little friends, which would come over to the house for free flan on a daily basis. After about 6 months of driving his kids and family crazy with flan, he joined up with his wife and a family friend that had enough confidence in him to front half the money in order to lease a location and buy some equipment. Mr. Ramirez’s business was slow in the beginning as most businesses are, but slowly he began to hire a sales force, which increased sales. Soon after he hired a production force and that is how Señor Rico desserts came to exist.

After several years, Mr. Ramirez’s sons grew up and became more involved in the company. They ultimately bought out the original partner and now Señor Rico is 100% owned by the Ramirez family . Since then, the company has expanded its product line by introducing a rainbow of fruit flavored gelatins and some really tasty puddings and cakes for all their customers to indulge in. Each item is individually packaged for complete freshness, and is produced at our production plant, located in Gardena, California.
